Easter, like any other holiday, can be stressful. It can bring the stress of preparing for family gatherings, cooking for a crowd and the general holiday busyness that often consumes us.

In honor of the Resurrected Life we celebrate at Easter, what better time to take a break from the hectic pace usually associated with holidays? There is healing power in taking time to relax and enjoy the fresh sights and smells of Spring. Jonny Diaz’s new song, Breathe, reminds us that Jesus calls us to rest and find peace in Him. Here are a few of the lyrics:

Breathe, just breathe

Come and rest at my feet

And be, just be

Chaos calls but all you really need

Is to take it in fill your lungs

The peace of God that overcomes

Just breathe

So let your weary spirit rest

Lay down what’s good and find what’s best

Just breathe

As Diaz says in his song, let’s challenge ourselves this Easter to “lay down what’s good and find what’s best.” Take a deep breath, spend your energy doing things that really matter, and enjoy a peaceful, joyous Easter holiday.

Easter is a holiday where children and adults alike are tempted with high doses of sugar. If your Easter celebration involves a visit from the Easter bunny, try to eliminate the overdose of sugar from all those candy eggs! Try replacing some of the sugary treats with things that are bright, colorful and fun as well as useful, such as sandals, sunglasses, bubbles, goggles, bug-catching toys, and jump ropes. Strategically choose toys you think will encourage the kids to get active and use their minds instead of sitting in front of the television. Spring weather is perfect for outdoor activities. Plan a family Easter egg hunt or go for an after-dinner walk.
