Have you taken time for yourself lately to recharge and rest? Many times, the week is full of errands, work, and family obligations; when we finally reach the weekend, we spend every moment trying to “get things done” we didn’t’ have time for during the week. Before we know it, we are back into the busy week and wonder why we have the case of the Monday’s.

JTA challenges you to take time for some long overdue R&R! All areas of our performance (cognitive, digestive, emotional, athletic) suffer if we do not get proper rest.

  • Cognitive: Slow down to give the mind the space and break it needs to perform at its peak.
  • Digestive: Give your gut rest through deep breathing exercises, eliminating heavy calorie laden foods, or incorporating fiber rich foods that keep things moving are all solutions to managing your GI recovery.
  • Emotional: Sleep is a time in which the body has a chance to heal and repair itself.
  • Athletic: Remember, when training more is not always better.  Over-training or over-use of the body can lead to excessive wear and tear.

Learning how to balance and prioritize life’s obligations is key. This week, when you are tempted to commit to one more thing and put rest on the back burner, we encourage you to stop, think and be willing to say “no, I need to rest”.
