As we approach July 4, we have a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our country and the independence we so boldly enjoy! I thought it would be a great time to remind us all of the tremendous blessing it is to be an American.

In America, we all have the opportunity to overcome our circumstances and work toward building a brighter future. People in other countries are often held down by their government or their class systems and destined to the same lives endured by their mothers and fathers, with little opportunity to dream big.

American liberty gives us the power to take charge of our lives and make changes for the better. We are privileged to have freedom of speech, religious freedom, freedom to choose our life’s work, to travel, to start a family, to get an education, to live wherever we choose, to choose our political views, and so much more! As an American every individual has the privilege to positively affect their own future.

As a woman, small business owner, and medical professional, I celebrate the freedom to pursue my passion for nutrition, build a thriving wellness company and establish high standards in providing the best care possible for my clients.

Speaking of the very awesome opportunities we have in America, have you taken time to enjoy the local festivals and farmer’s markets we have in this area? This past weekend Bruce and I enjoyed a visit to the Luling Watermelon Thump! The lively music, families dancing, food booths and of course, the watermelon were amazing – such a wonderful slice (no pun intended!) of Americana at its best! As we celebrate July 4th, it is the perfect time to take advantage of the abundance of fresh produce and take a road trip to some of the fun harvest festivities – many of which are less than an hour from home!

Summer is such a delectable time of year. It makes me eager to try new recipes and freshen up the classics. Today’s recipe for Blueberry Peach Crisp is a delicious twist on a southern summer-time classic, and a great way to enjoy our mouthwatering local peaches. Enjoy!
