Do you spend hours every day at a desk? How do you feel by the end of the day? In a recent survey by the American Institute of Stress, respondents ranked job pressure as the #1 cause of stress with 77% reporting one or more physical symptoms related to stress. What positive steps can you take to reduce stress at work? Rather than waiting until you get home to unwind, consider reducing tension during your workday. One quick tip is making sure you don’t let more than 3-4 hours go by without having a healthy meal or snack. Low blood sugar can cause anxiety and tension and also make concentration difficult. Another idea is to get out or at least look outside. Nature has restorative benefits, leaving you feeling less frustrated and more patient. And finally get up from your chair every 15 minutes to relieve hip and back muscles and increase circulation. Be sure to stretch out and walk around the office for 3-5 minutes at least once an hour.
