During July, we will be discussing how to ensure you reach peak performance in the areas of cognitive, digestive, emotional, athletic, and rest/recovery.

Last week, we discussed cognitive performance and the role food has on our ability to think clearly throughout the day. It is important to remember that our brain uses carbohydrates as fuel and requires a steady input of carbohydrates throughout the day. When we skip meals or snacks, we feel sleepy, foggy and slow. In order to prevent drops in energy and that foggy feeling, we must fuel our brain with the nutrients it needs. Our brain’s efficiency is determined by the type of carbohydrate foods we consume as well as proper hydration.
