The Story of JTA Wellness

In 2006, Jan Tilley & Associates, Inc. opened as a private practice nutrition office with one dietitian – me! I practiced solo for about two years. As the client base grew, I moved to a larger location, hired a second dietitian and a receptionist. Being in private practice has been one of the most difficult, but most rewarding endeavors of my life. Creating a referral base of physicians, building name recognition within San Antonio and across the country, mastering the art of accepting insurance, handling a full day of patients while still finding time to create nutrition content and manage a staff that has now grown into 5 dietitians, 4 administrators, and a practice manager has been a challenge that requires me to be on my ‘A’ game every day.

The growth of Jan Tilley & Associates, Inc. quickly sped up with the publishing of my first book, Getting Your Second Wind. As I look back on my career, I think writing the book has been one of my greatest professional accomplishments. This work was a cathartic look back at how my life experiences have lead me to become the woman I am today, and is a collection of personal, as well as professional, stories that have created a platform for me to speak on the topic of health and wellness in cities all over the country. Another dream was realized when I wrote my cookbook, Healthy Meals for Hurried Families, a collection of recipes I prepared for my four children when they were young; now they are cooking these same dishes for their young families. I’ve been blessed to sell thousands of copies of both books. During the preliminary writing of the first book, I wasn’t confident that I would be published, much less sell books.  My latest book, Eat Well to Be Well was born out of my passion to encourage readers to take personal responsibility for their own health by giving them the tools needed to live their best life through the power of anti-inflammatory food.

As Jan Tilley & Associates, Inc. evolved and grew it was obvious that our business platform had broadened, and this year we have chosen to rebrand ourselves as JTA Wellness, expanding our nutrition counseling services and become fully engaged in the arena of corporate wellness. With this decision, we have had the opportunity to work with companies, large and small, all over the state of Texas. Our niche in corporate wellness is to inspire employees to believe that improving their health is possible. Successfully mastering the art of Learn at Lunch programs ranging from “Healthy Eating in a Fast Food World” to “Know your Numbers…Move Your Numbers”, we are able to provide employees practical tools needed to bring their lab results into a healthy range.

During the past year JTA Wellness has seen intense growth. Internally we lovingly refer to this new phase as JTA 2.0! With this good fortune, we have been able to expand and remodel our office space, add staff and move boldly into the practice of culinary medicine. We eagerly look forward to upcoming challenges and successes as we embrace many exciting changes on the horizon. JTA Wellness is focused on becoming your wellness solution!
